Audrey Hepburn’s autographs, signatures, signed letters and photographs are in great demand by her fans and admirers. Collectors view the iconic actress as symbolic of personal style and high fashion unlike any other Hollywood movie star of her era. Hepburn was willing to send autograph signatures through the mail to autograph seekers, but fans seem not to have encountered her in person to obtain her signature as frequently as they did other movie stars. In later years, she evidently was willing to sign photographs sent to her, and all that we have seen are very classic photos of the perfectly styled and dressed star.

Hepburn's first starring role in a movie was with Gregory Peck in “Roman Holiday” in 1953. The director described seeing her screen test: “She had everything I was looking for – charm, innocence and talent. She was also very funny.” She won the Academy Award for Best Actress. She then starred in “Gigi” on Broadway, followed by “Sabrina” with Humphrey Bogart. She picked out her own outfits for “Sabrina” from the young fashion designer, Hubert de Givenchy, and they formed a life-long relationship. The year after “Sabrina,” Hepburn starred on Broadway in “Ondine” and won the Tony as Best Actress. By the mid 1950s, she was one of the biggest movie stars and a major influence on fashion. Numerous starring roles and successful movies followed: “Funny Face” (with Fred Astaire), “Paris When it Sizzles,” “Love in the Afternoon,” “Charade” (with Cary Grant), and her two all-time classics, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “My Fair Lady” (with Rex Harrison).

Audrey Hepburn’s later life was characterized by her ceaseless charitable efforts for UNICEF. She had a very traumatic upbringing in German-occupied Holland; her father was a right-wing fascist in the 1930s, and he abandoned his family in 1935. The deprivations of occupied Holland deeply affected her and probably contributed to her selfless attitude toward helping others in a way uncharacteristic of other movie stars.
