F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Autographs, Signatures

Autographs, signatures and signed letters of The Great Gatsby's author, F. Scott Fitzgerald's are much scarcer and less frequently encountered than many of his literary contemporary's autographs, signatures and signed letters. There are various reasons for this, one being that Fitzgerald was not easily accessible to his admirers and fans desiring his autograph, especially during the years he lived in Paris. He was certainly well known with his first novel, This Side of Paradise, chronicling the Jazz Age, selling very well. His second novel, The Beautiful and Damned, was also successful. The Great Gatsby came out the year he moved to Paris and, while critically acclaimed, it was not the financial success that he needed.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's Signed Letters

F. Scott Fitzgerald's signed letters are more frequently handwritten signed letters rather than typewritten signed letters as is the case with many of his contemporaries, especially Ernest Hemingway. Some years ago the letters he wrote to his daughter, Scottie, came on to the market, being offered individually, and some of these are available from time to time. Most of Fitzgerald's letters, have, however, been collected by institutional libraries and specialized private collectors and the prices of those that are offered, particularly if they have interesting content, reflect this rarity.

F. Scott Fitzgerald lived the Jazz Age as well as chronicling it and his Great Gatsby novel symbolizes life in the 1920’s and also, to some degree, his own life. Collectors, admirers and fans can feel a direct connection with life in the 1920’s through Fitzgerald’s autographs, signatures and signed letters.
