Fred Astaire's Autographs, Signatures, Signed PhotosFred Astaire's autographs, signatures, and signed photos convey the sense and style of the debonair dancer, whose career spanned 76 years and 31 films. Fred Astaire's autograph signature has very much the flow and feeling of his dancing - smooth and easy. One stroke of his signature flows into another, like one dance step into another. Astaire's very friendly and highly recognizable face meant that fans approached him all the time seeking his autograph signature, and he was happy to oblige them. His public disposition toward autograph seekers seems to have been as affable as he was on the screen. Fred Astaire started in show business with his sister in 1905 - they were very successful from the start and toured nationally. In 1916, Astaire met the new songwriter, George Gershwin, the year before he broke into Broadway. He and his sister appeared in Gershwin's "Lady Be Good," "Funny Face," and "The Band Wagon." Their act broke up with his sister's marriage, and Fred set out on his own. In Hollywood, he appeared with Ginger Rogers in "Flying Down to Rio" in 1933, and launched his film career. Despite Astaire's reluctance to form another dance team, he and Ginger Rogers made ten films together, including the classics "The Gay Divorcee," "Roberta," "Follow the Fleet," "Swing Time," "Top Hat," and "Shall We Dance." They went their successful separate ways in the 1940s. Many other dance partners followed in the 1940s and 1950s, including said Cyd Charisse ("The Band Wagon" and "Silk Stockings"). Fred Astaire's signed photographs of him dancing are the most desirable, and those with Ginger Rogers, signed by both, are the most in demand and the most expensive. Fortunately for today's admirers, Astaire was willing to sign movie stills from his pictures, and collectors today can obtain wonderful signed photographs of the dancing Fred Astaire.
