Richard Wagner's autographs, signatures and signed letters are of great interest throughout the world to collectors, admirers and fans of the great composer and his operas. He fled to Zurich because his of political involvements and, after an amnesty, he returned to Germany in 1861. His great successes continued with Siegfried, Gotterdammerung, Tristan und Isolde, Die Meistersinger and many others. Wagner's music had captivated not only Germany's populace, but other countries' as well. He traveled to London for performances and frequently had his music performed at the Paris Opera.

Wagner is very strongly identified with German culture; his music represented how Germany felt about itself.
