Our Autograph Gallery on Madison Avenue
Our Window on Madison Avenue is much more than a view into our autograph gallery. For more than 20 years it has been a window into history displaying pieces from our historical document and autograph collection, chosen from our inventory for their particular relevance to that day’s news and events.
Madison Avenue between 76th and 77th Street has a large number of neighborhood people walking by each day, many going to the Carlyle Hotel restaurant right next to us. Very few, if any, aren’t addicted to looking in The Window to see what we have from the past that continues to show that history is the basis of our understanding and appreciation of today’s events.
We have a new catalogue of featured autograph pieces available. Please contact office@kwrendell.com if you would like us to send you a copy of our catalogue.

Today, Tuesday, June 18, 2013, Rudolf Nureyev defects from the Soviet Union. Despite his fame as a ballet dancer in the Soviet Union, Rudolf Nureyev's rebellious character and non-conformist attitude put him under the spotlight of the KGB. On June 17, during a set of performances in Paris, Nureyev defected from the Soviet Union and signed a contract with a Parisian dance company. For the next twenty years, Nureyev performed with ballet companies all over the world, revolutionizing the role of male dancers. Because of Nureyev's contribution to ballet through both performance and choreography, male dancers gained an importance within the performance independent of their support of the female dancers. Nureyev was also influential in crossing the boundaries between classical ballet and modern dance. While current dancers are normally trained in both styles, it was Nureyev who initially bridged the distance between the two styles, excelling in modern and classical dance.
